För alla er som faktiskt klickade vidare till SolidWorks hemsida för att kolla så att ni inte skulle gå miste om ett otroligt bra erbjudande så ber jag om ursäkt och hoppas att ni tittade runt för att finna några andra riktiga nyheter.
Dassault Systèmes har försökt att dölja sina planer för SolidWorks men vi kan idag avslöja att SolidWorks kommer att bli GRATIS! Nåja, kanske inte helt gratis, men för att möta SketchUp med flera så kommer de paket som vi ser idag att försvinna och ersättas med ett online-avtal där man betalar efter hur många KB data som används i modellerna. Detta kommer att möjliggöra för flera att prova på 3D CAD utan att investera i mjukvara.
En annan effekt blir att ju bättre du behärskar SolidWorks funktionalitet, desto enklare (dvs med färre features) kan du skapa dina modeller och därmed använda färre KB per modell vilket innebär lägre kostnad. Detta kommer att göra det ännu mer attraktivt att anställa CSWP (Certified SolidWorks Professional) då dessa visat prov på att klara flera modeller inom en uppsatt tidsram och samtidigt få modellerna korrekta, fort och rätt om man så vill.
För ett litet urval användare så har SolidWorks corporation lagt ut en länk på sin hemsida där du kan anmäla dig för en prova på online-licens. De första 100 att anmäla sig kommer att betraktas som ”användare av speciellt intresse” och de kommer att erbjudas att teckna en engångslicens för USD 1000,- vilket ger fri modellering för all framtid. I denna summa ingår även framtida nya funktioner såsom simulering, fotorendering, animering mm.

Well, maybe not entirely free, but in order to encounter SketchUp among several, the packages we see today will disappear and be replaced by an online contract where you pay per KB data being used in the models. This will enable everyone to try 3D CAD without investing in software.
A second effect will be that the better you master SolidWorks functionality, the simpler (meaning with less features) you will be able to create your models and thereby use less KB per model meaning less money spent. This will make it even more attractive to hire CSWP (Certified SolidWorks Professional) since they have proven their ability to create multiple models during a fix time and getting them correct at the same time, quick and correct if you like.
For a small selection of users SolidWorks corporation have put a link on their website where you can apply for a trial online-licence. The first 100 to apply will be considered as ”users of special interest” and they will be offered to subscribe for a once-only licence for USD 1000,- which will allow for free modelling for all time. In this sum all future functionality is included such as simulation, photo render, animation etc.
